Darren Rovell CNBC farewell

Sports business wizard Darren Rovell is leaving CNBC to join ESPN and ABC News, so he recently wrote a farewell column on CNBC.com.

Being Rovell, he took the opportunity to basically let all of you know his job and life are way better than yours.

The highlights:

  • He played basketball with Dwyane Wade
  • Crashed a car into the wall at a NASCAR track
  • Interviewed BOTH Billy Mays and the "Shamwow" guy
  • Held on for dear life while reporting on Hurricane Irene
  • Covered Alex Rodriguez endorsing coconut water (seriously)

And the list goes on and on.

But the best part about Rovell's goodbye letter is the opening:

Forrest Gump.

That’s whose life I feel like I’ve lived over the past six years at CNBC.

That line just so happens to be pretty much identical to the opening line of former New York Times sports writer Karen Crouse's farewell column when she left her job at the Times a few days before.

I’ve been the Forrest Gump of sportswriters, a witness to all kinds of history.

This shouldn't really surprise any of us, considering Rovell's incessant anti-retweeting rules. Pulling Crouse's opening line and reworking it to more properly fit his guidelines sounds about right.

Thanks, Darren.

If you're really up for it, here's Rovell's entire column→
